odds and ends
I haven't picked up a camera in quite a while. Not quite sure what that's about. May have needed some time off to let my batteries recharge, I don't know.
Meanwhile, The Felice Brothers are having a really entertaining photo-related contest in celebration of their new record. These are the bases I used for my entries:
Birdbath Eye View, Harlem, New York, NY
Let The Light Shine In, The Cloisters, Inwood, New York, NY
Atlantic Coast, near Bathsheba, Barbados
Seabirds in Flight, Atlantic City, NJ
Sand Heart, Atlantic City, NJ
Spin, Atlantic City, NJ
I'll post the entries once they surface as part of the contest. Also I think i may have a had a little bit too much fun with the exercise. But it was interesting, fiddling with fonts and thinking about what was implied, in terms of mood and vibe.
My semester is winding down now. Only five more weeks to go. I'm looking forward to summer, and being able to get out and wander and turn my head off with the camera.

time for some tropical zen: Speightstown, Barbados
It snowed here again on Monday. This is now such a non-event that the intertubes didn't even flicker. I, however, am SO TIRED of snow. And cold. And ice. I need some tropical zen. So I'm sharing mine with you:
view from the side of the road, Speightstown, Barbados
Speightstown is the furthest from the airport, which translates to "least visited by tourists" which, for good or for ill, means that it less attention than, say, Bridgetown. On the other hand, there are buildings like this to be had:
I'm not quite sure what it is, but I think it was some sort of bodega/corner store type of outfit. It's across from the Parish Church:
some day i would like to go back and do specific photo projects, like, all of the parish churches, or, all of the roundabouts, since many of the traffic circles have distinctive decorations. Meanwhile, another one of Speightstown's older buildings:

fleurs - Andromeda Garden
This was our third garden in one day, so by the time we got there, we were a little bit fried. (Looking at the pictures now I can tell I was tired, and flagging.) It's a very carefully constructed place - formal, despite the riots of color and vegetation.
Also notable: the details on some of the paving stones:
